ABOUT CHEF JOHN SMITH
After nearly 20 years working as a chef in other kitchens, Chef Smith opened EJ's Urban Eatery in Kansas City's West Bottoms. The restaurant is modeled after a meat-and-three, a popular Southern style of comfort food dining that features meat and three sides. Smith will create a special array of five courses for this wine dinner that will delight regular customers at EJ's and introduce them to Fence Stile's estate wines.
During Smith's career, he has worked in New York City under award-winning Chef Tom Colicchio at Craft Restaurant, at award-winning Splash Seafood Restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa, and at 810 Chop House in Iowa. He opened the 801 Chophouse in Downtown Kansas City, MO in 2008, later opened The Jacobson as executive chef in Kansas City's Crossroads District, and worked at Leawood's Pig and Finch, part of the 801 Restaurant Family. Now, Chef Smith is leading his own restaurant and sharing his love for Southern cuisine, smoked meats and comfort food.
Brand and events manager, chef and cellar rat Pete Dulin documents wine, food and operations at Fence Stile Vineyards and Winery through writing and photography.
